Mr. Zhang Zhenmiao presented a paper at RECOMB-Seq 2023

14 Apr 2023

Mr. Zhang Zhenmiao, Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of System Medicine and Health Science (SMHS), who is a member of the Bioinformatics group of Dr. Lu Zhang, presented his work “Exploring high-quality microbial genomes by assembly of linked-reads with high barcode specificity using deep learning” at the 13th RECOMB Satellite Conference on Biological Sequence Analysis (RECOMB-Seq 2023).

Mr. Zhang’s research focused on improving metagenome assembly on short-reads with long-range connections provided by linked-read or long-read sequencing technologies. His work described a metagenome assembler called Pangaea, that improved the existing metagenome assemblers using long-range connections and a deep-learning-based read binning algorithm.

SMHS is delighted to continuously support the students and early-stage researchers for their contributions to System Medicine and Health Science. The achievement indicates the dedication of our researchers in the SMHS to perform cutting-edge research in metagenomics. We are delighted to see our researchers’ work presented on the international stage of RECOMB-Seq 2023 and look forward to seeing further achievements from fellows in our institute.
