Moreover, in the field of artificial intelligence rankings according to CSRankings, HKBU's Computer Science department secured an impressive 3rd place in Hong Kong, 26th in Asia, and 51st worldwide. The Department strongly emphasizes the importance of modern research facilities in facilitating top-tier research and education. Our high-performance computing resources, including FAT CPU, FAT GPU servers, and GPU clusters, are meticulously equipped to bolster our research capabilities. These resources are designed to address the evolving needs of research in artificial intelligence and big data, underscoring our commitment to cutting-edge exploration.
Dr. Eric Lu Zhang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at HKBU. His primary research focuses on machine learning, bioinformatics, and computational genomics. Prior to joining HKBU, he conducted postdoctoral research at both the Computer Science Department and the Pathology Department of Stanford University. His responsibilities included developing genomic analysis algorithms and applying machine learning to human disease research. He holds bachelor's degree from Tianjin University (in Software Engineering), Mphil's degree from The University of Hong Kong (in Bioinformatics) and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cityu University of Hong Kong. He conducted visiting research at UC Berkeley's Department of Mathematics in 2015. With an interdisciplinary background encompassing medicine, statistics, and computer science, Dr. Zhang has published relevant articles in well-known international journals such as PNAS, Nature Genetics, American Journal of Human Genetics, Nature Communications, Genome Biology, Microbiome and Briefings in Bioinformatics. We would like to recruit 2-3 PhD students, Postdocs and Research Assistant Professor to work on AI in Biomedicine. Our projects aim to develop deep learning models to interpret genomic sequences and spatial trans-omics data.

The Chinese medicine discipline is within the ambits of “Health and Drug Discovery” and “Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence”, which are two of the three strategic clusters of Hong Kong Baptist University’s research strengths. The SCM research team has a proven track record of success in conducting research of far-reaching impact and publishing its findings in internationally esteemed journals, as well as winning external competitive grants and patents.
The HKBU School of Business has been ranked 12th in Asia Pacific and 58th in the world, in the latest Association of Information System (AIS) Research Rankings, based on data accumulated from 2020 to 2022. The School strongly emphasizes the importance of modern research facilities in facilitating top-tier research and education.
Prof. Aiping Lyu, Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Endowed Professor in Chinese Medicine, is a Chair Professor & Dean of School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, Director of Institute for Systems Medicine and Health Sciences of HKBU, and the elected member of Academia Europaea (2022). His research interests mainly focus on the translational research in systems medicine, including pharmacological and clinical evaluation on rheumatoid arthritis with novel pattern classification and interventions, and development of new drugs based on Chinese medicines. Prof. Lyu has published over 600 articles, including 340 articles in SCI journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Communication, Biomaterials, and Briefings in Bioinformatics.
Prof. Christy M.K. Cheung, Chair Professor of the Department of Management, Marketing, and Information Systems, has achieved significant recognitions for her outstanding contributions to the field. She ranks as the top scholar in Hong Kong and 16th worldwide in the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Research Rankings. This ranking is based on the list of global high-quality journals accumulated from 2021 to 2023. Prof. Cheung also ranks as the 12th top scholar in the Best Business and Management Scientists in China, a ranking from Research.com that includes a total of 1,845 distinguished scholars in this area of expertise. With a Google Scholar citation of nearly 40,000, her research focuses on areas such as digital wellness and safety, digital health and well-being, DEI for minority groups, among others.

Our projects aim to understand the underlying psychological and behavioral mechanisms among specific groups of patients and develop and test IT-based tools and solutions for precision care.
