We recently had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Zhongyun (Phil) Zhou from School of Economics and Management, Tongji University for a highly engaging research seminar: "Demystifying the Dimensions and Roles of Metaverse Gaming Experience Value," organized by HKBU Research and Hong Kong Baptist University on 11 August 2026.
A central theme of our discussion was unpacking Metaverse Gaming Experience Value (MGEV). Prof. Zhou highlighted that understanding this experience value—and how to actively enhance it—is absolutely crucial for the success of digital and metaverse platforms.
To bridge the gap in current theoretical knowledge, Prof. Zhou walked us through a rigorous multi-study investigation. It was fascinating to see how combining qualitative coding, deep-learning classification models, and cluster analysis allows us to effectively model user behaviors in these virtual scenarios. By mapping out MGEV across intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivations and active vs. reactive engagement, the research presented a truly player-centered approach to identifying distinct user profiles.
Thank you once again to Prof. Zhou for sharing his invaluable expertise, and to everyone who joined us for this deep dive into digital life, health, and technology transformation!
